Loughborough University
Loughborough University is a campus university located in the market town of Loughborough, Leicestershire where the cities of Nottingham, Leicester and Derby are easily accessible. Loughborough railway station is 3 km (2 miles) away, the M1 1.6km (1 mile), and East Midlands Airport 14.5 km (9 miles).
Loughborough University is a safe, single-site campus that covers an area of 433 acres (1.75km2) which provides plenty of open space, gardens and sports areas interspersed with academic buildings and student accommodation.
The University has 24 academic departments and over 30 research institutes, divided between three faculties: Science, Engineering and Social Science & Humanities. Loughborough University also has been awarded the Best Student Experience five years running from 2006 until 2010 according to the Times Higher Education.
Facilities
Loughborough University has a wide range of facilities that are open to all - students, staffs, visitors and the local community. Facilities in campus include lecture theatres, laboratories, a major library and IT network, two theatres, conference and accommodation, restaurants, banks, shops, a health centre and Loughborough Students' Union, which is uniquely owned and run by university’s students. The university also provides a wide-ranging student guidance and welfare services, including the Careers and Employability Centre which has been voted into the top ten university careers services. A shuttle bus also operates between campus and the town/railway station.
There is also an indoor athletics centre and outdoor stadium, sports halls and all-weather pitches, a swimming pool, squash, badminton and netball courts, an indoor tennis centre and outdoor courts, and state of the art fitness centres (gym); and this is absolutely great news for those who are interested in sports!
Loughborough University Library offers a number of services to help you get the most out of your studying and research at Loughborough. The services include study spaces (7 group study rooms, 19 individual study carrels and 900 study spaces), borrowing, IT facilities, AV and Photocopying, online research, enquiry services and much more.
All the facilities are awesome but how about the prayer room?
As other facilities, an accessible 24-hours/day, Muslim Prayer Room is also provided, located in Brockington Building and approximately 80 students is available for five daily prayers.
Course
Most of the Malaysian students here are doing courses on engineering like chemical, mechanical and civil engineering. There also a few students doing economics & mathematics here. Large numbers of academic staff from Malaysian universities are choosing Loughborough to undertake their PhD/research. From Loughborough University 2010/2011 figures, about 36 undergraduate and 54 postgraduate students from Malaysia further their studies here.
Accommodation
Loughborough University provides you hall of residence and off-campus accommodation. Most of the first year students (Muslim students) will choose to stay at university hall. There are 18 different halls (catered and self-catering) for you to choose which provides you the best place to start your university life. However, most of the Muslim students form Malaysia will choose one of the two self-catering halls listed below:
1) Falkner Eggington
-situated on the edge of campus
-our largest and cheapest self catering hall.
-facilities include laundry(at EHB Building),games room, university internet, network access
& freewire TV
-fees- without hand basin rooms for 39 weeks @ £2,659.80.
- 7 or 8 students share kitchen and bathroom facilities.
2) Butler Court
- Located on the East side of campus
-facilities include laundry, games room, university internet, network access & freewire TV
and ensuite facilities
- a) Standard rooms for 39 weeks @ £3,006.90 - 4 rooms only!
b)Twin bedrooms with shared en-suite for 39 weeks @ £3,049.80.

c)Large en-suite rooms for 39 weeks @ £4,473.60.

- 3 bedroom flats, 3– 6 students share a large kitchen diner

Life as a Muslim
A very active Loughborough University Islamic Society is formed in order to create an environment of unity whilst catering to spiritual needs of Muslim students and also encourage learning and discussion about Islam. They have weekly Islamic circles, sports sessions and involved in interfaith. Let’s grab the chance to share your opinion in Islam with others from all over the world.
Halal Food
In Loughborough University we have “JOM MAKAN”, a restaurant that offers western-style Malaysian Cuisine as well as traditional Malaysian food, with meat dishes being Halal. It is officially opened on September 30th 2010.
Loughborough town also have several groceries and places to eat which provide the halal food.

b) Take aways such as Maxim Chicken and Maryland Chicken
Halal food can easily found in Loughborough and they are affordable by the students. You can also buy oriental foods and ingredients-Chinese, Japanese, Thai, Malaysian, Indonesian, Korean and much more in Loughborough. Just visit the Oriental Food Shop!
Malaysian Community
Loughborough Students Malaysia Society (LSMS) is one of the societies of this university. A variety of weekly social and sporting events, as well as trips to places of interest around the UK has been organized by this society. Over half of Malaysian students are to be found in the Engineering Faculty, but there are significant numbers to be found in Science and Humanities faculties.
There is also the “Masyarakat Melayu Loughborough” (MML) that gather all the Malays from Malaysia and Indonesia. More than 30 Malay families stay in Loughborough and every year we accept new members. A lot of activity was planned throughout the year such as BBQ, Sports and Family Day, football, golf and much more.
