University of Bristol

University of Bristol is indeed a very unique place to study. It offers you the vibrant city life, minus the unnecessary hustle and bustle that one would find in London. It is a city which is rich in tradition, but at the same time maintains its elite status as the hub of aerospace in the UK where well-known company like airbus, rolls-royce, and agusta westland proud themselves in spear heading the nations' technological advancement. Although it is unfortunately less known in Malaysia , University of Bristol is a must for those who would like to further their education in one of UK's top ranking university, especially in its medical, engineering, chemical, and law faculties.


Facilities

International airport is nearby, where you could find very cheap tickets from budget airlines(RyanAir and EasyJet) to Spain, Amsterdam, and many others! One of the airlines, KLM, is a partner of Malaysia Airlines, and provides the journey to Malaysia, with a transit in Amsterdam. This means that you dont have to go all the way(3-4hours) to the airport in London. All other basic facilities, such as prayer room, gym, swimming pool, are available.


Course

Chemistry, Law, Medicine, and Engineering.
There are approximately 30 undergraduate students in total.


Accommodation

Freshers usually lives in accommodation halls near the city, within walking distance to the university(10-15minutes). Second year would stay in private house, which is easy to find, and close to the university as well.


Life as a Muslim

Life as a muslim is the same everywhere, and its very easy to become a good muslim here. IKRAM as a proactive NGO provides you with many activities, and weekly circles to ensure the development of a true Muslim characteristics along with excellent academic perfomance. Local society, such as University of Bristol Islamic Society organizes weekly classes (arabic, tajweed, and seerah) as well as many talks from well-known speaker in the country.


Halal Food

Halal food, as well as Malaysian food is very easy to find. A postgraduate student here also sells Malaysian take away here with free delivery! The food is, amazingly cheap and finger-licking delicious! Nasi Lemak, Nasi Ayam, Nasi Briyani, oh my goodness!! How can you resist that??


Malaysian Community

Malaysian community here is small, which gives it the advantages of feeling more like a family. Postgraduates family are very nice, and everyone will give you the warmth feeling of belonging. How lovely!


What to Prepare

1. The right mentality, which is brave enough to learn new things, and challenge your own ideas.

2. The courage and sincerity to develop yourself, not only in terms of academic, but as a human being!

In other words, student housing has secular winds supporting it, and it's relatively recession-proof because even during an economic downturn, parents will do everything to send their kids to university to learn.
